VAN DYCK THE EUROPEAN

The genius of Flemish Master Anthony van Dyck illuminated: catalogue to accompany the major exhibition in Genoa

This book tells the fascinating story of Anthony van Dyck, one of the great masters of the seventeenth century, and explores how three vibrant cities shaped his life and art: Antwerp, Genoa and London. New source material offers a fresh perspective on Van Dyck’s oeuvre against the back of a crisis-stricken Europe.

Sixty extraordinary paintings, captured in striking clarity and detail, showcase his sensitive, expressive and penetrating style. A visionary artist, Van Dyck transformed Western concepts of identity and emotional connectivity in ways that remain profoundly relevant to this day.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Van Dyck, the European at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, from 20 March to 19 July 2026.
